I tried explaining to Steinbeck about the leaves changing colors this time of year.
He never told me why they do it!
Anyway, I told him it was all part of nature and there was nothing he could do about it.
Well, I’m part of nature so why can’t I change my color?
Remember people……….I have to live with him. Anyway, Mom took a picture of a tree by us that has leaves who have decided they no longer want to be green. Steinbeck hasn’t personally seen this tree, but he did look at the picture.
I figured I could change our colors, too. Wouldn’t it be cool if I turned green in the fall and Hemingway turned red? I was hitting buttons on the computer and suddenly this happened:
It’s kind of like putting on colored glasses, Steinbeck. I think I still look very regal in shades of red. You, however, look a little sickly. I think we should stick to our own colors and not try to change like the leaves do.
But nobody has explained to me just why the leaves aren’t happy staying green. I think green is a pretty color. Of course compared toGINGER, it really pales in comparison MOL!
Mom said since we slept through last Sunday’s Selfie, we better make sure we get one out there today. After all this will be the last chance in August.
Why?
Look at the calendar. Next Sunday will be in September.
I better start growing my furs. Doesn’t it start getting cold soon.
Shhhhhhhhhhhhh. Mom said she doesn’t want to talk about that. Anyway, here’s our doctored-up selfie. Mom calls it “Me and My Shadow”.
Don’t forget to check out what our other friends posted at the Blog Hop.
Did you hear Mom talking about some clipsie thing today?
She was talking about the eclipse.
So, what is that? Is it a new cat food? Is it a new catnip plant?
No. It’s something that happened in the sky.
What?
Well, imagine you are looking out the window at a pretty butterfly. Then all of a sudden, I walk in front of you and sit down for a bit.
You always do that!
Yes, well, that’s sort of what the moon did. Today the moon got in front of the sun and blocked its sight so it couldn’t send out those rays of light and make it bright outside.
I thought we saw the moon at night. What’s it doing awake during the day? Is it still clipsing?
No. It happened around the time Mom has her lunch. Maybe since I mentioned lunch you might understand a little ‘cuz teaching you something about the world is next to impossible if it doesn’t involve food or treats. At least we both did what Mom said to do today. She told us not to look at the sun.
We didn’t!
I know…………we were both napping.
Mom…………..this is how I looked during the eclipse thing.
Mom………..this was me dreaming about clipsie catnip. Obviously clipsie things are for sleeping. I wonder if Mom fell asleep at work?????????
Readers, we have had some really drippy days around here lately. It’s good for the plants, grass and trees but it’s bad for us and Mom. We tend to get a little crabby. Today is a brand new day!!!
Mom let both of us go outside and she came out and brushed us. We listened to birds, smelled flowers, chased flying things and made sure Mom didn’t go pulling weeds and upset any of those stinging things.
This time they look like they glow in the dark!
Mom showed us these flowers and we all thought they were pretty. The first picture is just a regular shot, but the second one, Mom messed around with her camera settings and they almost look like they would glow in the dark!
She also saw Mr. Peach blooming and showed that to us. I think Mr. Peach has some of my colors!
I was resting on the deck and Mom took my picture. Then she messed around with it and made it black and white. She says my socks and bib are super white and she thinks I’m regal.
Here I am surveying the back yard to make sure there are no intruders. I have to watch out for my little brother when we’re both outside. Mom says he’s not as brave as I am.
Hemingway, is that a bird up there or is it SuperCat?????
I posed for Mom real nice. She wanted to take a picture of me after she brushed out half my furs!
We’re going inside now to take a nap. Maybe we’ll go out with Mom again later.
Well, it’s sort of been a rough few days. I had an upper respiratory infection and was on medicine for a couple of weeks. Mom didn’t want me going outside. Now it’s been raining so I can’t go outside. That gives me cabin fever…..or so Mom says.
That has me totally confused. You humans sure do say some really strange things. Is this how you know a cabin has a fever? Do you put the thermometer in the chimney? We don’t even have a cabin so how could I have cabin fever? No wonder I don’t know what’s going on!!!!
Anyway, you know that Mom had a big fight with bees not too long ago. She had to be on medicine but she’s just fine now. However, one night during that time, I was calmly sleeping on her head, listening to her snore. (MOL) Suddenly I had a “catmare” and it scared me so much that I jumped up and launched myself off of Mom’s face. Yep…..you guessed it. My claws managed to leave marks on her face and she started bleeding. I felt so bad. I couldn’t help it that I got scared.
So, I scratched Mom and then I’ve been busy knocking things off of shelves, tables, bookcases, desks, and whatever else is handy ‘cuz I have this “cabin fever” bug.
Mom discovered something this morning when she was looking at her face in a book.
Steinbeck, that’s Facebook.
Whatever. She discovered that today is my one year Gotcha Anniversary!!!
You mean I’ve had to put up with you for a whole year already?
Yep! And you love me!
Mom said I could share some of my baby pictures.
This was the picture they took of me the first time I visited the doctor’s house. I told Mom to have them take another picture! Look at my helicopter ears!!!
This is me exploring the doghouse that Mom’s brother made for her work. Hemingway and I share it.
This is me sleeping. I did a lot of it when I was little.
In fact, I still do.
This is me exploring what Hemingway says is a kitty washing machine.
From the Mom: Hemingway, don’t lie to your little brother. I would never use that to wash either one of you. We use that only for the dishes. No kitties!
Here I am eating with my big brother. Hemingway looks really really big here. Mom said she was glad we became good friends so fast. If you notice, I am protecting my food in case Hemingway dared to take a bite.
Here I am playing with my big brother, Hemingway. He’s still bigger than me, but I’m trying to catch up as fast as I can.
Mom, I just want to thank you for “gotcha’ing” me. I’m so glad you came to the Humane Society to adopt me. I just knew we would be the bestest buddies. Thank you for adopting my big brother, too.
We got a nice surprise! Kali and Shoko from The Canadian Cats nominated us for this award. We like chatting with these two friends and we are happy they nominated us.
Do we get treats?
From the Mom: Steinbeck, you don’t need treats ALL the time. I started this blog back on April 30, 2011. At the time, I had Hemingway and Shakespeare. Both were young kittensthat I had adopted from the Humane Society. It was actually a year ago yesterday that I lost Shakespeare to a freakish accident. I was heartbroken. The very next day, or exactly a year ago, I went to the Humane Society because I had seen Steinbeck online and knew he was for me. He has helped me through the loss of Shakespeare and has wiggled his way firmly into my heart. By writing this blog, I keep my writing skills active and I get a chance to meet humans and fur people from all over the world.
My advice is simple. Have fun! Don’t expect to win a Pulitzer Prize. Just share something that means lots to you. Don’t concentrate on the numbers. Concentrate on the quality.
I’m also supposed to nominate 15 other bloggers. I tend to be lazy when it comes to this so I’ll put out a few for you.
The Cat on my Head: The delightful tales of a house full of kitties, known as Kitties Blue, who will melt your heart! They also host the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop.
Hands on Bowie: Mr. Bowie is absolutely the best. He always has great words of wisdom.
Dash Kitten: This is one of our new friends and there’s lots of information on the blog.
Catitude: Mom has actually met Quinnie Makayla and her human. Quinn has her paws full right now ‘cuz her Mom hasn’t been feeling very good. Please say some prayers for both of them.
Glogirly: Tails of Two Funny Cats and Their Girl.Katie and Waffles will make you MOL!!! Mom is friends with them and their humans. They used to live really close but now they’ve moved. You’ll love reading about them. They are awesome!
One Spoiled Cat: Teddy came to his home shortly after Angel Sammy crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Teddy has become a good friend! You’ll love reading about him.
I could go on and on but if I ignore my boys, they will get into trouble. I’m supposed to be playing with them when I get home from work and not working on the computer. Everyone deserves an award so feel free to reward yourselves.
Here’s what I had to do:
Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog
Write a post to show your award
Give a brief story of how your blog started
Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers
Select 15 other bloggers you want to give this award to
Comment on each blog and let them know you have nominated them and provide the link to the post you created.
Now I will confess to being a little lazy so I hope those I nominated will read the boys’ blog to find out they did get nominated.
