Mom Bribed Us

Mom picked some fresh catnip for us.  She said she wanted to ask if she could use our blog tonight.

We told her she could use it whenever she wanted…….but the catnip was a wonderful treat.  I gobbled it down right away!

We also got some tuna water so it has been a wonderful night so far!

Well, here’s Mom……………(What do you mean I sound like Ed McMahon.  Who on earth is that?)

Steinbeck is too young to know Ed McMahon and I’m thinking some of their readers are also too young.  Anyway, that’s not who I want to write about.  I want you to meet my cousins.

This is Steve, Allison and their son, Mitch.  Allison’s mom, April, is my first cousin and we’ve stayed close over the years.Steve, Allison and MitchOver the weekend I got one of those dreaded calls from April.  She told me that Steve, Allison and Mitch had been in a car accident.  I couldn’t believe it.  They had been heading out to a special Wild West airsoft event. This is a family that has always loved being involved in reenactments and things like that.  It was going to be a time for Mitch and his best friend to have some fun.  Mitch has lots of medical issues and he wanted to go to this so desperately.  Needless to say, they all ended up in hospitals instead.

I posted a prayer request on Facebook and it seemed like it exploded.  I started getting comments from people all over the place.  My cousins have friends all over and everyone wanted to know what was happening.  I got a chance to text some of those people.  I made new friends.  I felt the power of prayer reaching my cousins and coming from all directions.

How can I explain how small the world really is?  Sometimes it just takes saying hi to someone and then it spreads.  We never know the connections we may have to others unless we open up and talk.  That’s what I think the younger generation (Does that mean I’m the older generation now???) misses out on.  They are glued to their cell phones.  They don’t write letters.  They don’t send cards.  They don’t look in a person’s eye.

Now, I was using social media over the weekend to ask for prayers, but then I went further and started up conversations and added new friends.  We may never meet, but we will remember that time in April 2019 when we were praying for my cousins.

I can thankfully report that my cousins are all out of the hospital and back home now.  They still have lots of recovery ahead of them and need prayers for strength and patience.  Mitch’s best friend, Mike, is still in the hospital and needs prayers for his injuries.  He had more severe injuries than the rest of them and it will be a long road to recovery.  Allison is a cancer survivor and I’m so proud of how she has marched forward.  This is an incredible family and I’m so thrilled that we are related.

Thanks for listening.  I better go get the boys some more catnip so they don’t try to take over the computer.  Have a beautiful week, everyone.

Terrific Tuesday

We couldn’t wait for Mom to get home from that work place tonight.

We just had a feeling all three of us were going to go outside.

The birds were singing and the squirrels were running around in our yard.  They didn’t seem to care that we were coming outside to join them.

Here’s a little look at our exciting time tonight.

Mom, you’ve got lots of work to do.  Where did all these leaves come from?  Did the snow grow them?

imageedit_3_3923800066

Don’t worry, Mom.  I’ll help clean them up!  Just look at what a fine job I’m doing!!

Mom says this is my “Hunter Boy” pose.  She said she loves it ‘cuz it shows off all the colors of my furs.

imageedit_11_8829755060

This is what I did when Mom said we won’t be able to play outside tomorrow night ‘cuz it will be raining.  I wasn’t happy!

imageedit_5_4151486668

When we came inside Mom turned our toy on for us.  The feather dances all over the place.  It just didn’t seem to have the fascination that all the sights and sounds outside had, though.

Well, we hope you enjoyed our adventure outside.  We also hope that “snow” stuff is gone for good now……..and so does Mom.

Hemingway, I have a wonderful idea!  It will be great fun for a Saturday night when it’s still too cold to go outside.

imageedit_1_2339585829

You do realize that you woke me up from my nap, don’t you?  What is this big idea you had.

Well, you know how all the silly humans were talking about the “snirt” that fell on us this past week?  At first I had no idea what they were talking about but Mom finally explained that “snirt” is snow-dirt.  Seems we got some dirt and sand all the way from Texas and New Mexico mixed in with our snow.

I heard about that when those weather people were talking.  I don’t know where Texas is but Mom says it’s a long ways away and we can’t go there.  I don’t know if I’m real happy about them sending their dirt to us, though.  Maybe we should send them our snow!

I know Mom would agree with that.  However, my idea for tonight is to come up with some other snow addition possibilities.  I’ll go first.

Snatnip = snow and catnip (I’m all in favor of that)

Ok, I get it.  Here’s another one.

Snocolate = snow and chocolate (Mom would love that)

Snake = snow and cake.  (I don’t think I like that one.)

Snickles = snow and pickles (that just sounds funny)

Snizza = snow and pizza (that sounds like someone’s sneezing)

Snowdered sugar = snow and powdered sugar

Snuppies = snow and puppies

Snittens = snow and kittens

You’re right, Steinbeck.  This was a fun thing to do on a cold Saturday night.  Thanks for coming up with the idea.  Now let’s go to sleep.

My deck is gone

Here’s me trying to figure out what happened to my deck

Not going out

And here’s me refusing to go out.

We’d show you a picture of Mom, but she has a really crabby face when she looks at that white stuff.  Those nasty weather people say it will keep dropping white stuff all night.

Where’s our catnip???

Mom said it’s safe ‘cuz it’s on the south side of the house.

Good!!!  Now I can go back to sleeping.

Monday Meanderings

After a rainy weekend, Mom wanted to be outside when she got home from work tonight so that meant we got to go outside, too!

imageedit_1_7395083386Here I am checking out this bush.  It’s supposed to have leaves on it but I don’t see any.

imageedit_3_9103278502

And here I am trying to convince Hemingway that I AM outside….it just looks like I’m not.  I’m trying to warn him about the strange smells and sounds out there but obviously he’s not listening to me.

Mom found some little flowers blooming on the other side of the fence.

imageedit_9_9724803294Here’s some more that she thought were really pretty.

imageedit_11_3997414655

Now this flower is not real, but it’s one of her favorites.  It was made by a friend of hers.  She has lots of his stained glass things both inside and outside.  She tells us we can’t touch them.

And this picture is the very best:

Mom found some catnip growing and she gave us some!  I was so happy that I even walked out on the deck.

I walked out on the deck before I knew anything about the catnip.  Guess who the brave one is???

Crystals and Crowns and Commotion

Don’t try to adjust your computers.  There’s nothing wrong with them.  It’s just Mom showing us what she’s been through lately.

Remember how we told you a while back that Mom fell out of bed a couple times and it wasn’t because we pushed her!

I know I didn’t push her, I can’t guarantee Steinbeck didn’t, but he’s usually down at the foot of the bed so he’s out of the way.

Well, Mom was falling other times and she was getting concerned and so were we.

First of all, she was embarrassed that someone might see her sprawled on the ground laughing.  Yes, she did laugh some of the times she fell ‘cuz she thought it was so stupid.

One night she fell and cracked her head against the wall.  She had a big goose egg on her head and I have no idea how that goose got into our house.

Steinbeck, there was no goose in the house.

Well, who  laid the egg?

Ignore him.  Mom talked with her doctor and they decided she should go to the Dizzy Clinic.

Hemingway said he’s going to send me there.   He says I tend to be a “Dizzy Dude”.

When Mom went to the clinic, she found out the crystals in her right ear were out of place and that was throwing her way off balance.

I found a cool picture of crystals.  Is this what Mom has in her ears?

crystalsMom says she’s pretty sure she has Swarovski crystals in her ear, but I’m betting the doctors would tell her differently.  We’ll just let her go ahead and think that way.  After all, she does have a Dizzy Dame crown!!!

Anyway, Mom wants everyone to know that she went through all sorts of tests and things and they did the Epely Maneuver to get her “crystals” back where they belong.  She went through some physical therapy and has some exercises to do at home, but she’s doing great.  She’s very thankful that they have such good clinics around here and she enjoyed learning so much from the doctors and therapists.

And she hasn’t fallen out of bed again!!!!
