Evening Traditions

We try our best to make Mom laugh when she comes home from work.

We both have our traditions and if we don’t do them, Mom knows something is wrong., like when I got so sick.

I like to sit in the side window in the living room and watch for Mom to come home.  Mom usually looks at the window to see if I’m there.  However, I know what her car sounds like so I can tell she’s there before she pulls into the driveway.  She always starts laughing (or so she tells me) ‘cuz she can tell I’ve been waiting for her.  See, when she pulls into the driveway and looks at the window, if I’m not there, she can tell I was ‘cuz the blinds are moving in all sorts of directions.

I make Mom laugh when she gets to the door.  She has her key in her hand but she looks in the door, and there I am reaching up for the doorknob to “help” her.  She thinks I look so cute that she can’t help but laugh.  Then when she finally unlocks the door and opens it, I take time for a quick “mew” and then I’m off racing into the back yard to see what I’ve missed.  I usually do come back in again to check on my food dish, but I like to spend as much time in the back yard as I can.

Then, once we’re both inside, we have to take a nap.  Usually we’re both on the couch with Mom.  We watch TV or read or maybe talk on the phone.  It’s our together time and sometimes we get to chase the red dot.

When it’s almost time for Mom to go to bed, she goes out to the kitchen where all the food is and she gets us some treats.  Hemingway sits up and begs for his treats but I don’t have time for that so Mom just lets me have mine.

So, we have greeting time, outside time, together time and then treat time.

Guess what comes next?

  1. Sounds like a perfect evening. Xena barks like a crazy dog and I do a full body wiggle when Mom comes up the inside stairs from the garage, and she can’t get through the door way until we get some attention. It’s fun to have routines that show our Moms all is well. Xox Lucy and Xena

  2. We kitties LOVE LOVE LOVE our routines don’t we?! My Mom has some pretty strict routines too but she says it helps her REMEMBER stuff since she’s like a bazillion years old now. Whatever works is our motto around here! One thing is for sure though – we LOVE it when Mom gets home right?

    Hugs, Teddy

Purrs, meows, barks, chirps and human comments are greatly appreciated. We love hearing from our readers.
