Long Night Into Day

Look what my little brother did most of the day:

imageedit_1_9627346284

So what are you saying?  Mom got me this new bed so I’m supposed to sleep in it.

All day?????

imageedit_3_8380916357

Why not?  Look at how beautiful my furs look against the sparkly blue.  It makes my gingerness look gorgeous.

The only reason you are in that bed is ‘cuz you stayed out in the back yard too long last night and Mom got mad at  you. And then you got really tired.

I told her I was busy counting the flowers.  Look at all I found.

imageedit_5_8997669521

There was this pretty vine by the honeysuckle.

Look at that.  It’s red.

imageedit_11_6005914196

And look what was growing on the honeysuckle.  Isn’t it pretty?  It would be fun to bat around on the sidewalk.

And it’s red.

imageedit_7_9514863904

Then here’s some grrrrrrrrrrrrraniums.

Once again, they are red.

imageedit_9_3275649435

Then there’s this pretty flower I found by one of my hidey places.

Amazing.  It’s red.

imageedit_13_4318716507

And then I found this one also by my hidey place.

Hey………..it’s not red.  How did you manage to find that one?  So, what was your excuse to Mom for staying out so late.

I told you.  I told her I was counting flowers.

Only the red ones?

They were easier to see in the dark.  I really had to strain my eyes to count that black piece of tuna.

Steinbeck, I don’t appreciate you staying out late ‘cuz Mom gets worried and then both of us have to stay inside.

But I wanted to count flowers………………

Spring Came…and Stayed!!

Brotherly LoveHey everyone, we have spring here and it’s been wonderful.  That’s why you haven’t heard from us.  We’ve all been outside playing and working and enjoying all that fresh air.  That makes us really tired so we’ve been napping lots.

I like to go outside to be brushed.  Mom puts my furs on the log pile and then birdies come and take it for their nests.  I think that’s really neat. Now that it’s getting warmer, I have too many furs anyway, so I will gladly share.

Poor Mom has been working like crazy in the yard and she’s kind of broken her body.  She says she’s getting too old for all this stuff but she really loves pretty flowers.

She took some pictures of some of the stuff she’s been doing so we’ll just do a little slide show for you.  Hemingway, how do we do that?

Just put your paw on that button and stand back.

Ok………

We hope you enjoyed our pictures of Mom’s flowers.

I just want to know when the catnip is going to grow.  I saw one container that had chocolate mint in it.  Doesn’t Mom know that’s not good for us?

I think she probably bought that for herself.

Oh……..well, I guess she can do that.

Our Colorful World

Mom went out and took some pictures of the flowers in our yard.

Some of these flowers are outside of the fence so we never see them.

We think she should put more flowers in the back yard where we can see them.

We told Mom that and she said, “We’ll see.”  We’re pretty sure to humans that means……maybe in elebenty billion years.

Oh well, please enjoy our colorful world.

We’ve Got Color!!!!

Mom wanted to take everyone on a tour of all the colors we have in our yard now.

You might ask why we aren’t taking you on the tour.  Well, some of the things are in the front yard and we aren’t supposed to leave the back yard.

You do that all the time!

Don’t tell the readers that.

Anyway, here’s another reason we aren’t outside:

That first step is a doozie!!!  Mom can’t even use the door now ‘cuz her legs are too short to navigate that route.  Her brother tore apart the deck and is putting in a new one.

Yes, Mom is using the front door now and that scares us!  We’re not used to having people we know come in that door.  Of course we also have trouble going in and out the back door now, too!

So Mom wanted to show us what’s blooming in the yard.  Here’s what she found.

Hey Mom……….why didn’t you take any pictures of our catnip????

Mom Left Us at Home!!!!

On Friday Mom left us at home while she went to this place called an arboretum.

Arbor-eat-em?  A place where you eat arbors?  What are they?

No, it’s arboretum…..it’s a place where they have lots of trees, flowers and plants for humans to see.  She said there were lots and lots of trees and pretty leaves.

We like leaves.  Why didn’t we get to go with her?

For one thing, we don’t like to ride in the car.

Oh that………..well, should we show our readers some of her pictures?

You go ahead and post them to our blog.  I’m going to go take a nap in a sun puddle.

Digging in the Dirt Leads to Flowers………

Mom doesn’t want us going out of the back yard so we asked her to show us pictures of what she’s done in the front yard.

She told us we could share them with you.

Flowering CrabMom says this is a flowering crab.  We don’t understand how it can be so crabby when it is so beautiful in the spring.

Front Yard PlanterThis is one of the planters she has out front.  I think those yellow flowers would look better if I stood next to them.  My orange fur would make them stand out even more…..but Mom won’t let me go in the front yard.

Front Yard FlowersMom says this is a flower bed by one of the maple trees out front.  If it’s a bed, does that mean the flowers are sleeping?

Bleeding HeartMom calls this a bleeding heart plant.  I just don’t get it but I think it’s pretty.

PansiesThese are pansies and Mom actually has them in the back yard so we can enjoy them.  Thanks, Mom!

New HibiscusMom said this is her new hibiscus plant.  Look at that color……..it’s almost as gorgeous as me!!!  What’s even better is that she has it on the deck so I can sit and look at it.  I just love it!

Ethel and JackThis is Ethel and Jack.  They aren’t in our yard.  They are across the street playing in a mud puddle.  Mom told us we could not go play with them.

We hope you enjoyed our tour of flowers.  We’ll have to share more when the others start blooming.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I don’t know what we’re going to do.

Neither do I.

How can we get Mom a birthday present today if we can’t go out of the back yard?

I know she won’t let us do any shopping online.  She’s told us before that we aren’t allowed to do that.

She said we can’t have any of those plastic card things that humans call credit cards.

I know and that’s how they pay for things when they shop online so even if we could find something neat for Mom we wouldn’t be able to buy it.

I wonder if there’s anything in the back yard we could wrap up for her.  I know that one time I brought her a bird she wasn’t real happy so I won’t be doing that again.

What if we picked her some flowers?

That might work.  Except that you know both of us love to pull the flowers out of the vase so Mom doesn’t even keep flowers in the house now.

Maybe we could ask the human and fur readers what we can do.

Good idea!  Does anyone out there know what we can do special for Mom today since it’s her birthday?

For now we can tell Mom how much we love her and how much we hope she has a super special day.

Happy Birthday, Mom!  We’ll try to be extra good today just for you.

However, tomorrow all bets are off.

Shakespeare, that wasn’t very smart.  Now if anything happens tomorrow Mom will blame you.  Hey….on second thought that works for me.  I can be naughty and you’ll get blamed.

Not fair, Hemingway!  Mom……….if anything happens tomorrow it’s not my fault!

Weekends

Weekends are wearing us out!

They sure are.  Now that we’ve had some weekends with nice weather, we’ve been outside “helping” Mom and she doesn’t know when to come in!

She’s been busy digging in the dirt and planting things and pulling other things out.  We check the new plants because if she plants catnip in the back yard, we want to know about it.

So far she’s only let it grow in the front yard, but I found some mint so we may have to resort to chewing on that.

I was helping Mom pull weeds.

That’s not the way she tells it.

Well, I was in a playful mood so if she was moving the plants around while pulling the weeds, then I had to grab her hand or the plants.  She kept going from garden to garden but I would follow her.

I was busy checking on the bird baths.  I wanted to make sure they had water in them.

Mom told you to leave the bird baths alone.

But look……..this picture proves I wasn’t being naughty. I was just guarding the bird bath to make sure nobody tipped it over.

Human and fur people readers, do not be fooled by this picture.  Just moments before, Shakespeare was standing on his tippy toes, peering into the bird bath.  And here’s another picture where he was contemplating tipping over the watering can.

You don’t have to tell them everything!  Remember, Mom reads this too.

Next weekend we’re going to get a chance to rest ‘cuz Mom is taking a road trip and she’s not bringing us along.  We’ll try to convince Uncle Bob to let us out, but he’s not as good about that as Mom is.

I think it’s more a case of him not listening to our whining!

Anyway, we’re both tired so we’re going to go take a nap now.  All that fresh air this weekend made us sleepy kitties.  We hope all of our readers had a wonderful weekend.

Happy Memorial Day

Boy are we ever tired!

We sure are.  Who would have thought that Mom having three days off would wear us out so much.

I think we mostly got tired just watching her work in the yard.

She did this but it’s out in the front yard and we can’t go out there.  We told Mom to take a picture so we could share with our friends.

I was busy surveying some of the stuff she did in the back yard.  I think I look so pretty among these plants!

I was kind of wondering who this other kitty is.  I think I’m much more handsome than he is.  He just sits there and doesn’t say anything.  I sure hope he doesn’t eat any of our treats!

I have my favorite corner in the yard and here I am “hiding” in it.  Of course Mom and Shakespeare both know I love this spot so they always know where to find me.  Maybe I should look for a new secret spot.

I was just taking a nap and suddenly this plant caught my attention.  I had to ask Mom if it smelled.  She told me it was a wild rose and I should be careful.  But she also said I might be smelling some of the orange and chocolate mint that’s planted nearby.

So that was our long weekend with Mom.  We got to spend lots and lots of time outside and we’re pretty tired now.  I told Mom we would get this blog done as quickly as we could, but I’m having a little trouble…………

Shhhhh……….don’t tell Hemingway but I found a quiet corner and I’m sound asleep.  However, I wanted to make sure that we said a special thanks to all the service men and women who have risked their lives for our freedom.

Don’t forget the service dogs.

Right…….I wonder if there are any service kitties?  We shouldn’t forget them.

Thanks to all who have given us the right to be ourselves and live free….even if we can only be in the back yard.
