Monday, Monday………..Where are our treats????

Hemingway, why did Mom have to go to the vet?

Steinbeck, I’ve told you before. We go to the vet but Mom goes to a doctor. The vet takes care of us fur people.

Have you seen Mom’s hair in the summer? It’s pretty furry!!!

She doesn’t go to the vet for herself. However, she did have to go see her doctor. Turns out that when she broke her heart and they had to open her up and then put her back together again, they had some problems.

They didn’t have to open her all the way up again, did they?

Oh no. This was just an out patient surgery. Remember? She came home later that afternoon. They told her they had to fix an incisional hernia.

That sounds awful. Hey, wait a minute. We can’t get that!!!

Why not?

‘Cuz it’s a hernia!!! If it was on us, it would have to be a hisnia.

Steinbeck, I hate to admit it but you might be on to something there.

From the Mom: I did have a hernia operation last week and it still really hurts a lot. Everything you do seems to involve your stomach muscles, as I’ve quickly and painfully discovered. Hisnia or Hernia, it’s been taken care of and a few more days of rest and relaxation should get me back on the road to recovery. Oh, and the boys have had to quickly learn not to jump on me!

Mondays Are Not Easy!!

Dr Hemingway

Let me tell you about MY Monday.  Once you hear my sad tale, you’ll never complain about your Mondays again.

Hemingway, why are you wearing that silly hat?

I’m pretending to be a doctor.  Actually, I think I look pretty cute.  Blue is a good color on me.  Anyway, Monday morning Mom tried to grab me but I went downstairs and hid.  After a pretty long time, I came out of hiding and sat at the bottom of the stairs.  Mom’s brother saw me and he came downstairs and picked me up.  I’m still not sure why I didn’t run away from him.  He gave me to Mom and next thing I knew I was in her car.  I sang the song of my people all the way over to the doctor’s house.  When we got inside, I sat down on one of the chairs and refused to talk to Mom.  She talked to one of the assistants and I heard things about teeth and being knocked out and all sorts of scary stuff.  Would you believe Mom left me there????  I let the assistant pick me up and carry me back to another room.  I was afraid I would never see Mom again.

I was worried while you were gone.  I don’t like being home all alone.

Mom said that while I was “sleeping” they had to extract one of my toofies.  It was sick and the doctor lady said it would be really painful if they didn’t take care of it.  Believe me, in the process of “taking care of it”  it was painful enough so I’m glad they took it out.  My smile is still cute so there’s no problems.  I have to retain my handsomeness!!!

When it was dark out, Mom came to get me.  She had to pay out lots of money to get me out of there but she said I was worth it.  When I first saw her, I was so excited.  I got in her arms and never wanted to leave.  So, we headed outside.  Now here’s where things get a little confusing.  Mom put me in the car and I cleverly managed to sneak out and went under the car and hid.  It was dark and Mom couldn’t see me.  It was also super cold and Mom didn’t have her gloves on.  She went in and got one of the “desk ladies” to come out and help.  She brought a big net (They had to use that on me once before so I was familiar with it.).  She tried looking under the car and didn’t see me so Mom got really worried……..and really cold.  They brought out a flashlight and managed to convince me to come out.  Mom put me in the car again and…….you guessed it…..I tried to get out again.  You see, it was logical for me to want to get out ‘cuz I was afraid that Mom was going to take me to another doctor’s house or something.  I just didn’t understand ‘cuz I was on kitty drugs for the pain.  Anyway, I finally settled on the floor…….right by the brake and gas pedal.  Mom kept trying to get me to move but I wouldn’t budge.  She said she was very glad that she only had a short distance to go and that she was able to get both of us home safely.  And that’s why I don’t like Mondays anymore.

From the Mom:  When I finally got home last night, I was exhausted.  I was going to help the boys with their blog but I just couldn’t do it.  I had to warm up (it really was biting cold), eat supper and relax.  Hemingway is doing fine.  He takes his pain meds in the morning like a trooper.  He won’t leave me alone and seems to love cuddling even more.  By the way, I absolutely love the picture they took of him.  It just made me smile.  I’m thinking I may have to print that one and frame it.  Good old Hemingway spent Veterans’ Day at the vet’s.

I’m Glad My Life is Dull

Mr Hemingway

Hi Readers!!!  This is me enjoying the cooler weather outside.  It’s been a real whirlwind around here this weekend.  First of all, look who’s home:

Mr Steinbeck

Oh man…….why are you putting that picture of me in the blog???  This was the first time I came home on Thursday night and I still wasn’t good.  The doctor lady thought I would be okay ‘cuz I had peed on my own.  However, I did that just so they would let me out of there.  Once I got home I wouldn’t eat and I didn’t do too much moving.  Mom was getting pretty concerned when she left for work Friday morning.

Mom had been at work for a couple of hours and suddenly the phone rang.  She was really surprised to hear her neighbor’s voice.  She didn’t think anyone knew her work number ‘cuz half the time Mom doesn’t even know it!  Anyway, our neighbor told Mom that the police were looking for her.  I promise that I didn’t call them claiming abuse for not getting enough catnip.  Mom couldn’t figure out what was going on and was afraid something had happened to her brother and nephew who were on a road trip.

Before Mom could call the police and find out what was happening, the phone rang again and it was her clinic.  Turns out Mom had really low Halloween Goblins (Hemingway, that’s hemoglobin).  Anyway her doctor told her she had to get to emergency right away and get a blood transfusion.

PANIC!!!!  Mom got home and called the vet to see about taking Steinbeck back since he wasn’t doing good and her doctor had told her she might have to stay in the hospital.  Steinbeck went for yet another ride over to the vet’s and Mom gave them her cell phone number and her neighbor’s cell phone number and told them she was on the way to the hospital.  Her neighbor drove her over there and she got checked in.

When they were hooking her up for the transfusion, there was a knock on the door and the nurses asked Mom if she was expecting anyone.  She laughed and said she gave at the office.  Anyway, turns out it was her neighbor.  Steinbeck was having problems and they wanted him in a clinic that was open 24 hours.  Mom, our neighbor and the vet all talked it over (while Mom was getting blood) and our neighbor said she would take Steinbeck.

Another crisis settled.  Then Mom’s niece, who is a nurse at that hospital, called her and luckily she wasn’t working so she could come and get Mom and bring her home when they were finished.

Mom got home and then had to go over to the clinic to see Steinbeck and sign some papers.  Finally she got home and stayed put.

Yesterday she got together with some friends from her old job.  She was glad she was able to make that.  However, when she got home, she ended up taking a two hour nap.  Today she’s been running around doing stuff, but she did manage to find time to spend in the hammock.  The dizzies and stuff are still there and she knows she has more tests ahead of her now but at least she’s not white like my feet any longer.  She has a little color now……..other than gray!

Steinbeck came home again last night and this time he’s doing better.  He is hiding under the couch ‘cuz he’s afraid someone is going to take him to another doctor.  He has been seen walking around the house and going down to the litter box.  He even ate some in the middle of the night.

See……..that’s why I like having a dull life.  Look at all those two have been through this weekend!!!  They both said they really appreciate the prayers and concerns expressed by everyone.  They are both on the way to healing so that’s a good thing.

I’m Surrounded by Sickies….

imageedit_11_8829755060

People….it’s true.  I’m surrounded by sickies.  I’m so thankful that I’m healthy.  It seems everything started falling apart last week.

Let me explain.  First of all, let me tell you about Mom.  She went to see her human vet this week ‘cuz she was having a few issues.  Now she has to go have pictures taken of her brain.  She said first of all she’s going to have to find a brain and she’s not sure where to look.  According to her, this thing called Amazon ran out of brains.  Guess she’s in big trouble.  The other night both Steinbeck and I had to laugh right out loud at her.  She was sleeping soundly and next thing we knew, she was on the floor again!!!  Remember when she did that before?  Some of her friends have told her she’s going to have to pile pillows up around the bed.  We both think that would really be neat!

This morning, Steinbeck was yelling.  Yep…he was actually yelling!!!  He always squeaks and that’s the only noise he makes.  Not this morning.  He woke Mom up super early and she was very concerned.  She decided she was going to take Steinbeck to see the doctor lady before heading to work.  She sent a message to her boss and told her she would be late.  When I heard her talking about the doctor lady and that building, I knew I wanted to hide ‘cuz I sure didn’t want to go!

Mom dropped off Steinbeck at the hospital and I haven’t seen him since this morning.  I asked Mom about it when she got home from work and she explained that he has to stay in the hospital until Friday night.  She asked me if I wanted to get some flowers to take to Steinbeck in the hospital.  I just looked at her and shook my head.  Mom stopped by the hospital tonight to see how Steinbeck was doing.  This is how he came into the room:

At the vet3

Mom didn’t get all of Stephanie’s face ‘cuz she was concentrating on Steinbeck.  I must admit I started to laugh when I saw him with that cone head thing on.  MOL!!!  Turns out he had a urinary tract infection and was plugged up.  No wonder he was howling!!  He was in lots of pain and was so confused.  I felt bad for him when Mom told me.

At the vet2

Here’s Steinbeck showing off his messy furs.  Mom wanted to brush him but she knew he wasn’t interested.  I think he looks kind of cute all “ruffled up”.

At the vet1

I see that Steinbeck has a red bracelet on.  I remember when I was in the hospital place and they put a bracelet on me.  Right now I can’t remember what color mine was.  I told Mom to tell Steinbeck that he looks very dapper.

At the vet4I think Steinbeck is thinking about escaping and is planning his route.  He’s my brother and I can tell things like that.  I better stay by the door tonight so I can let him in.

From the Mom:

Yes………it’s been an exciting time here lately.  I’ve been having trouble breathing and have been getting dizzy again.  This is not the vertigo I went through a few months ago.  This is different.  My doctor wants to make sure she’s checked out everything so I’ll be having some scans next week.  I’ve never been a smoker so that’s not what’s causing the breathing problem.  When Steinbeck was howling this morning I really got scared.  He never makes noises like that unless he’s in the car on the way to the vet.  He looked miserable and wasn’t doing much moving.  When I visited him tonight he wasn’t as stressed out but still wasn’t interested in eating.  Hemingway has definitely turned into Velcro Kitty and won’t leave my side.  I’m sure it will be a happy reunion when the brothers are together again.  Thanks for reading and thanks for any prayers you might want to send.
