Field Trip

Mom said we were going on a field trip tonight after work and I got really excited.  It promised to be even more exciting ‘cuz Shakespeare wasn’t included.  When it came time to get into the car, I must admit I got a little scared.  I kept talking and Mom kept petting me and telling me it was going to be fine.  She didn’t tell me where I was going but I sure found out!!!

Before long she pulled into a parking lot and turned the engine off.  Then she picked me up (not an easy task) and started to carry me into this building.  Wait a minute!!!!  I know that building!   That’s where the doctor man lives so this can’t be a good thing.  I tried to remain calm and hoped that if I shut my eyes nobody would see me.

This is my “I’m not happy” look.  Mom said she hasn’t seen this look before.  Well, she’s seen it now and she better pay attention!

I thought if I hid in the corner nobody would find me.

I got the scale figured out.  I discovered if I put one foot off the scale I wouldn’t weigh as much.  Stupid humans figured out what I was doing!

This is a picture of me and the doc.  He’s really a good guy in spite of the fact that he told me I had to start working out on a treadmill.  He did keep telling me that I was handsome and he thought I was really neat.  I guess I’ll have to listen to what he says and try to lose a little weight.  I’m just a little over 19 pounds but he says that is too much.  Mom said she would make me chase the laser light more often.

Here I am at the end of my visit.  I was wondering if those treats were for me but the people at the doctor’s office said those were treats for dogs.  Well, maybe they would let me bring some home for my friend Champ who lives next door.  He’s a dog.  They also said that I should be the clinic mascot  ‘cuz I was so calm.  I didn’t care if other fur people came in to see the docs.  I was all done and I knew I would be going home.  The only problem was that Mom and the other people were talking about me getting a job to pay for seeing the doctor man.  Well, if Mom didn’t take me to see him then she wouldn’t have to worry about paying him.  I guess it’s all her fault.

I’m going to take a nap now.  Maybe I should have Mom get the laser light out first so I can get some exercise.  No……I think I’ll take a nap first.

.

Naps

We love our naps.

Yes, we have several specific spots throughout the house that are favorite napping spots for each of us.

Maybe we fur people should let the humans know why we nap.

Why do we want to let out our secrets?

Well, I wanted to play today and Mom wanted to nap so I got a little upset.  I think it’s because she doesn’t understand the nap routine,  so I want to let her and the other humans know what’s going on in our kitty heads..

Ok.  You like to talk so go ahead.  I’ll go see if there’s any food.

We know Mom has to go to work during the week so we use those days for catching up on our sleep by taking naps.  By the time Friday night arrives we’re all “powered-up” and ready to go.  Just ask Mom!

She says we’re always “powered-up”…..especially lately.

Anyway, by the time the weekend arrives, we know Mom doesn’t have to go to work so she should be ready to play with us all day long and most of that time should be spent outside.  It’s only fair.  She gets to go outside every day of the week.  Sure, she says she’s going to work, but do we really know that’s what she’s doing?

Well, if she wasn’t going to work, then she wouldn’t be able to afford to buy us cat food and treats.

Good point.  Still, when the weekend comes, she’s away from work so she should want to play with us.  What did she do today?   SHE TOOK A NAP!!!  It’s our day to play and she took a nap!!!!

Well, she said we couldn’t go outside ‘cuz it was cold and rainy.

She could have played inside with us……but she took a nap!!!  Don’t humans know that naps are for week days?  Weekends are for playing with us fur people…..preferably outside.

I bet they know now!

White Stuff

Shakespeare, come look outside.

Why?  What am I supposed to be looking at?

What is that white stuff flying around?

Maybe it’s that fluffy stuff that comes off those plants with the pretty yellow flowers.

I don’t think so.

Remember how Mom talks about that big tree in the neighbor’s yard that drops white stuff?

That tree doesn’t even have its leaves yet so I don’t think it’s from that.

Maybe someone left an opened bag of flour outside.  It’s really windy so it could be flour flying around.

I don’t think it’s any of that.  I’m afraid it might be…..I hate to say it…..but it might be snow!

No way!!!  Remember how hot it was Saturday?  We were all outside and Mom was raking and she was sweating.  When it snows it’s cold.  Besides, isn’t it spring now?

I don’t get it either, but that sure looks like snowflakes out there.

We better close the blinds and get away from the window.  It’s too scary out there.  I don’t understand what happened to the nice weather.  Who scared it away?

I don’t know but we better try to convince Uncle Bob to build a fire so we can stay warm and cozy.

Treats always make me feel warm and cozy.

Well of course they do…………..

We Saw Him…..We Saw Him!!!!

I always like to wake up really early and I try to get Mom up but she usually ends up pushing me out of her room and shutting the door.

I’m the good kitty.  I don’t usually wake up Mom before that thing on her dresser starts making all that obnoxious noise.

Hush.  I’m trying to explain to the humans and other fur people what happened to us this morning.

Mom finally got up and she came out and gave us some food and then she was busy doing something in her room.  When she came out again, she was surprised to find both of us staring out the window.   She came over to see what we were looking at and she started laughing.

She told us it was the Easter Bunny!  We didn’t realize that’s who it was ‘cuz he was gray and brown instead of white.  He was just sitting there staring at us.

But he didn’t have a basket of eggs with him.

We were wondering what he was doing out this early.  Did he forget to look at the calendar?

Is he going to bring us a basket of eggs?  I don’t want eggs.  I want treats.  Doesn’t the Easter Bunny bring baskets of treats to the fur people?

I don’t know if he does, but he should!  This morning was really fun for us ‘cuz not every fur person gets to see the Easter Bunny bright and early!!  I sure hope he remembers to come back on the right day.

Trees in His Toes

Hey, all you readers out there.  I’m really getting concerned about Hemingway.

Shakespeare, are you messing with the computer again?

No.  I’m just looking for treats.

Great, that fooled Hemingway so I can talk.  I think you might have heard that we’ve been going outside with Mom when she gets home from work.  She seems to be digging in dirt and stuff so it gives us time to explore.  Well, Hemingway picked up all these sticky things on his feet.  He and Mom worked at getting most of them off but every time he goes outside he picks up more.  Mom said those were seeds that trees drop.  I wasn’t sure what Mom meant so I decided to do a little research on the internet.  That’s a scary thing to do ‘cuz sometimes a fur person learns more than he wants to learn!

I found out that tree seeds are like little baby trees that grow when there’s dirt, water and sunshine.  Here’s the problem – Hemingway has those seeds on his feet.  What happens if he starts walking around in the dirt, then maybe steps in a puddle of water and then sits down and holds his feet up to the sunshine?  Will he start growing trees between his toes?  How will he walk?  Will I have to take care of him?  Can someone help me chop the trees down when they grow?  I’m so concerned.  Please let me know what I’m supposed to do.  I want to take care of my big brother and I don’t want Mom to worry about him.  I know I can count on the humans and fur people out there to advise me.

Now I think I really will go look for some treats.  Have a great day and don’t step on tree seeds.

Birthday Greetings from The Mom

Shakespeare,

I’m so glad I adopted you.  My life has been full of fun and adventure since you and Hemingway came into my life.  I am glad you had such a wonderful birthday.  You probably don’t realize it but you heard from people all over the world.  Isn’t it wonderful that you and Hemingway learned to use the computer?  You’re growing up and it was nice of you to share your new toys and treats with Hemingway.  I know he’ll do the same when his birthday comes along.

Hemingway, I know it was sometimes hard for you to watch Shakespeare getting all the attention today but I know you’ll get all sorts of attention on your birthday.  Before you ask, you may not start bugging the humans and other fur people about your birthday yet ‘cuz it isn’t until December and that’s lots of months away from now.  Yes, I know Shakespeare was a bit of a  pest about making sure everyone knew about his birthday, but you are the bigger brother and you should try to be a good example.

Shakespeare, I’m glad you liked your new toys.  I’m going to share a picture of you with one of your new toys.  I’m sure your new human and fur people friends will enjoy seeing it.

Hemingway, I haven’t forgotten you.  Here’s a picture for your human and fur people to enjoy.  I see that you’ve got all sorts of toys handy but you seem to be too tired to play.

You boys had a big day so you should sleep soundly tonight.   How about if you cancel the races through the house just for tonight so we can all sleep.  Sound like a good idea?

Love you both……….Mom

IT’S MY SPECIAL DAY…..AT LAST!!!!

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY….IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!!!  IT’S FINALLY HERE!!  EVERYBODY SING…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

I was born on March 22, 2010 and Mom adopted me on June 25, 2010.  I was really scared when I first came to my new house.  There was a big black and white cat named Hemingway that I found out was going to be my big brother.  There was also an old black and white dog named Ebony.  I didn’t know what dogs were but I liked her.  She’s gone now and I miss her.  I am a lucky kitty and I’m so glad Mom chose me.

Here’s a picture of me when I was little:

My tail was big even then!

Now that I’m two I suppose I should start planning my career.  Do you think I would make a good model?  I know I don’t want to be a football star and I don’t want to drive a race car.  However, being a model or a movie star might suit me.

Well, I better get going so everyone can greet me and talk to me on my birthday.  I’m going to play, nap, eat and run through the house ‘cuz I’m so happy it’s my birthday!

Tell you what I’m going to do.  Since it’s my birthday, if Hemingway doesn’t come back here and finish his food, then it’s mine to eat.  First I have to clean out my dish but that shouldn’t be a problem.

To all my human and fur people friends, I just want to thank you for helping me celebrate my birthday.  I’m really enjoying my special day!

Mom…..hurry up and get home from work so I can open my presents and eat my treats!  Hemingway, thank you for letting me have the blog to myself today.  I’ll do the same for you on your birthday.

We’re Getting Excited Now!

Mom’s coming home tonight.  Mom’s coming home tonight!

My birthday’s only two days away.  My birthday’s only two days away!

Shakespeare, aren’t you excited that Mom’s coming home tonight?

Sure, it means that my birthday is even closer.

Is that all you think about?

Just because your birthday is by Christmas and there’s all sorts of parties, doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t expect big things on my birthday in the middle of nothing on the calendar.

But think about it.  Since my birthday is by Christmas and the humans are so busy thinking about Christmas,  they sometimes let my special day just slide by.  Right now while I’m still kind of young and very handsome, they make an effort to remember.  What happens when I get older and the humans get older and lose their memories?

I hadn’t thought about it that way.  But I still want everyone to get excited about my birthday.  It’s my very own day!

Don’t you think we should celebrate when Mom adopted us?  I think that’s a really important date to remember.

Right!  We each have two very special days to celebrate.

I still think you should get a little excited about Mom coming home tonight.

Will she give us treats when she gets here?

We Hate Suitcases

Why does Mom have her suitcase out again?  That usually is a bad thing.

Didn’t you look at the calendar?

No, it’s too high on the wall.  What does it say?

It says she’s going to go take care of that dog again.

Why does she want to go spend time with a dog?

I have no idea.  It would be better if she just stayed here with us.  We need her ‘cuz she gives us food, treats, tummy rubs, brushings and lots of attention.

Who’s going to take care of us?  Will we still get fed?  Will we still get food?

Don’t worry, Uncle Bob will take care of us.  He’s good.  Not as good as Mom ‘cuz he doesn’t let us get away with stuff.  But he’s still good.

Is Mom going to be home in time for my birthday?

Yes, she’ll be home for your birthday.

Ok, I guess I can let her go take care of that dog.  Maybe she’ll earn tons of money and be able to buy me something really neat.  I think I want one of those carpeted climbing things so I can go real high and see for miles.

You don’t need one of those.  You already climb everything as it is.

Well, I can still dream.

We’ll have to call Mom while she’s at that other house.  I’m sure she’ll want to know what we’re doing.

We can remind her of my birthday, too.

You have such a one-track mind!

We Are So Good!

When we got up for breakfast this morning, we found this note from Mom:

Dear Boys,

Thank you so much for the wonderful Valentine’s present.  Letting me sleep through the night was great!  I know you really wanted to run through the house like crazy and play with your toys, but you refrained.  Thank you for giving me one good night’s rest.  Now that I know you really can do it, maybe you could try letting me sleep a few more nights.  Love you boys.

She was so happy with our gift!  Do we get treats now?
