Remember when………

Remember when I was complaining about having too much cold and no snow?

imageedit_1_6851307030

I said all that cold was being wasted. Well…………

snow kitty

Look what happened to poor Outdoor Kitty!!!  He’s amazed.  We haven’t really had snow this winter……….until now.

ready

To make things worse, Mom said we’re losing all of our degrees and going way into the hole.  Tonight the actual temperature may get down to -27 F.  That’s almost beyond the bottom of degrees in my mind.  Poor Steinbeck has never seen cold like this.

Good thing Mom got more wood so we can just stay inside and be warm.

If anyone has extra degrees, please send them our way!  We would all really appreciate it.

I Have One Question…

imageedit_1_6851307030

Where’s the snow?  It’s cold out there but there’s no snow.  That seems like such a waste of cold.  Aren’t we supposed to be conserving or something?  We have no snow and it’s cold.  That’s not conserving in my mind.  Besides, there’s not even any sun!!!  If we can’t have snow, can we at least have sun?

imageedit_4_8595611605

Steinbeck, will you quit your grumbling and watch for the squirrels, bunnies and birds?  With all the racket you’re making about no snow, they’re going to get scared and stay away.

imageedit_6_8637200601

Fine, maybe I’ll go help Mom make the bed.  I know she can’t do it without my help.

imageedit_8_7222167562

Steinbeck, come look.  The squirrel is hanging upside down from the bird feeder again.

Hemingway, it’s hard to tell, but he’s looking right at me!

imageedit_11_5363768562

Did that make you forget about the fact we have cold and no snow.

Not really.  But at least it gave me something else to do.  Besides, I found my kicky-throw-in-the-air toy and that always makes me happy.

Sigh…….It’s a good thing Mom had today off from work.  I get so tired taking care of this little one!

Home of the Brave

That’s me!!!

imageedit_9_9015459481

I’m the brave one. I went outside in the cold airs and I even sat down on the really cold deck.  Mom, you could have cleared a bigger space for me.  I barely fit all of me in this spot.  See the wood?  That’s so we can have fires in the house and make it cozy.  The wood man came last weekend with his really big truck and unloaded wood for the house.  We were both scared of him ‘cuz he doesn’t come that often, but we were all thankful he was here.

imageedit_4_4150424625

I’m brave, too!  It’s just that my toy wanted me to stay inside with it and sit in the sun puddle.  I didn’t want to hurt the toy’s feelings so I stayed inside where it’s warm.  I didn’t want my ginger toes touching all that cold white stuff.  I sniffed the cold airs and decided the angels had left the freezer doors open way too long for me.

Mom had the day off today so we both got extra play time with her.

She had to go see the dentist and get her toofies cleaned.  She told me that they use root beer flavored cleaning stuff.  What’s root beer?

It’s a flavor you probably wouldn’t like.  They would have to use catnip flavored stuff for us.

My toofies are fine so I don’t need to be going anywhere no matter what flavor is involved.

And you were talking about being brave?

Never mind…………..

Mom’s Wish Came True

For a week or so, the weather people have been telling everyone around here that we were going to be buried in snow by this time.  Mom got tired of hearing them talk about all the white stuff.  After all, just last Sunday our humans had a BBQ out on the deck and it was around 60.  All of us were hoping that maybe winter decided to leave early.

Then the weather people started talking about all this white stuff coming.  Mom said she didn’t want any white stuff.  Eben her friends were hoping the white stuff would stay away and that the weather people were telling tails.

Steinbeck………you mean tales.

Oh, right.  Anyway, we wanted to call the weather people and tell them to cancel the white stuff ‘cuz Mom didn’t want any.

We thought she deserved to have a nice surprise.

Guess what?

Here’s what our new “foot of snow” looks like:

our-foot-of-snow

Mom says the weather people have to stop teasing us.  Oh, it’s cold out there this weekend but it sure isn’t white here.

Mom says just south of us there’s lots and lots of the new white stuff, but it missed us.

We’re all happy!!!

Even though winter hasn’t left yet.

Two Cat Night

Hemingway, I get concerned when Mom has to go outside in the cold.

Don’t worry, Little One.  Mom has lived in Minnesota for many, many, many, many years and she can handle the cold…..even if she doesn’t like it.

But this morning we had less than no temperature.  There was a – sign in front of the temperature.  So why did the angels steal so many temperatures that they put us in the hole.

I don’t know.

And did you say what they did outside?  They spilled flour all over the place!

dsc_0754

Steinbeck, that’s snow.  I think I’ve told you about it before but you keep forgetting.  It’s cold and you don’t want to put your paws in it.  Don’t worry, the sun will eventually melt it but it will be many months now before that happens.

But won’t the angels have to give us back some of those temperatures?

dsc_0743

Teaching Steinbeck is so hard.  I need to take a nap and try and recover.

dsc_0750

I’ll just stay in this sun puddle and try to get warm.  Are we going to have another two cat night?

Steinbeck, you better explain to your readers what you’re talking about.

Well, last night we were concerned that Mom might get cold during the night so both of us slept on her head.  She told us it was a two cat night.  Maybe we should call some of our friends to come join us since it’s going to be even colder tonight!

Mom Tried to Tell Us

We were begging Mom to let us go outside today.  After all, it was nice and cozy inside with the fire going in the wood-burning stove.  We figured it was just as nice and cozy outside.

statues

We were so wrong!  We went outside and discovered it was cold.  Really cold!!!  Here we are frozen like statues.

Mom didn’t let us stay outside very long.  We were happy to come back inside and play with our toys.

My toy

This is one of my Christmas toys and I really like it.  Don’t even think about trying to take it away.

Loving my toy

Don’t worry.  I’m having fun with my own toy.

Thanks Santa Paws and humans for the wonderful gifts for us to play with.

It’s nice to have new toys since it’s too cold to go outside and play with the dogs, squirrels and birds.
