Mom Says………..

………that today is National Cat Day.

We don’t get it.  Why do humans think they have to make a special day for cats?

Don’t they realize that EVERY day is CAT DAY???

Well, to celebrate us today, Mom let us go outside and play when she got home from work.

It was a little chilly but we had our fur coats on.

imageedit_5_7490054099

Steinbeck, those leaves sure look like your fur!

imageedit_7_6502737757

Be quiet.  I think there’s a black kitty over here in the leaves.  I’m going to pretend I’m ignoring him and see if he turns around.

imageedit_1_3413449525

I can see for miles and miles and miles from this spot.  I can see more leaves falling.  Mom’s not going to be happy.  Those trees are making a mess in the yard again.

imageedit_9_6084390937

Look Hemingway……..the leaves are making a mess on the sidewalk and the driveway, too.  Mom doesn’t let us make big messes like that.  How come the trees get away with it?

imageedit_3_3782333025

I don’t know.  I thought Mr. Outdoor Cat was supposed to be watching for stuff like that.

imageedit_11_3274749464

Hemingway………did you hear what Mr. Outdoor Cat said?  He said it’s going to get colder, all the catnip will die and then he mumbled something about the “s” word.  Can we convince Mom to move to Florida???

Why not?  After all it’s National Cat Day!!!

The Painting Fairies Have Wet Feet!

Hemingway, come look at this:

imageedit_12_5139151029

This leaf doesn’t look normal but I can’t reach it.  What has happened to it?

imageedit_1_9063337780

Steinbeck, am I going to have to explain this to you every fall?

Probably.  I have a short attention span.  MOL!

Look at the deck.  Notice that there are lots of leaves that look like that and they are scattered all over.

imageedit_11_4150303073

Why aren’t they still in the trees?  Do they feel bad that they are no longer green so they jump off?

No.  The Painting Fairies come along and paint the leaves so they change colors for the humans to enjoy in the fall.

They seem to be rather limited in their choices of color.

Not everywhere.  They use different colors for different trees.  Look off in the distance.

imageedit_19_7153536595

Oh………that’s pretty.  But you know what, Hemingway?

imageedit_12_8978877857

What?

Those Painting Fairies are going to have mighty wet feet with all the rain we’ve been having.  I bet Mom won’t let them in the house with their wet feet!

Oh Steinbeck……………….

Caturday Art

It’s fall here and that means the leaves are falling!  If the leaves stayed on the trees, the season would be stay.

Mom says “stay” to you a lot!

I’m ignoring that.  Anyway, Mom let us go out in the fall today and she took our picture.

what do we see

If you look very carefully, you’ll see me on the ground, under the bush.

Mom took the picture and changed it!

imageedit_30_7533143401

Hemingway, Mom tried to make you orange!!!

But as you see, tuxedos rule!

We Have a Question…

I tried explaining to Steinbeck about the leaves changing colors this time of year.

He never told me why they do it!

Anyway, I told him it was all part of nature and there was nothing he could do about it.

Well, I’m part of nature so why can’t I change my color?

Remember people……….I have to live with him.  Anyway, Mom took a picture of a tree by us that has leaves who have decided they no longer want to be green.  Steinbeck hasn’t personally seen this tree, but he did look at the picture.

I figured I could change our colors, too.  Wouldn’t it be cool if I turned green in the fall and Hemingway turned red?  I was hitting buttons on the computer and suddenly this happened:

imageedit_15_6736188486

imageedit_8_6603361342

It’s kind of like putting on colored glasses, Steinbeck.  I think I still look very regal in shades of red.  You, however, look a little sickly.  I think we should stick to our own colors and not try to change like the leaves do.

But nobody has explained to me just why the leaves aren’t happy staying green.  I think green is  a pretty color.  Of course compared to GINGER, it really pales in comparison  MOL!

All About Fall and Fur

Over the weekend we were sitting outside discussing fall.  Well, I was discussing it and Shakespeare was just looking around!

P1040848

Want to know why I love fall?

I guess I’m supposed to say yes now.

Just look at me and the leaves.  See how the leaves are trying to copy my beautiful fur.  I have FALL FUR!

Well, I have NIGHT FUR then and that’s even better ‘cuz nights happen all year long.

Sunday Thinking

Why do the leaves fall?

The tail

How many “falls” have you lived through?

I haven’t fallen lately!  I’m not clumsy.

I mean the season fall.

Just as many as you have.  What’s your point?

Then you should know that in the fall the leaves change colors and because that process wears them out so much, they all let go and fall down on the ground.  Then we can go walking through them, making crunchy noises.

Hemingway in Bag

But Mom also gets a little cranky ‘cuz she has to rake up all those leaves.  She claims that we get leaves from trees all over the world!

You know Mom is telling a bit of a tale there.

Mom doesn’t have a tail!  Anyway, I came up with an idea.

Oh, I’m sure you did.  What is it?

Well, what if the leaves all took turns changing colors during the year and didn’t all fall down at the same time?

What?

Just think about it.  They trees could have stripes or polka dots or other designs, depending on when the leaves changed colors and where they were positioned on the tree.  They might look sort of like this.

treeI understand what you’re trying to say…………and that really scares me lots!!!  However, I don’t think your idea would work.  For one thing, here in the frozen tundra, all the leaves fall off the trees for the long winter.  Don’t you remember all those naked branches when there’s that white stuff on the ground for a bazillion months?

I get embarrassed looking at naked branches.

So, if the leaves took turns changing colors and falling down during the other months, then Mom and the other humans would be raking all the time and I’m sure that would make them crabby.

I guess so……….but striped and polka-dotted trees sure would be pretty!

Watching Leaves

Mom Left Us at Home!!!!

On Friday Mom left us at home while she went to this place called an arboretum.

Arbor-eat-em?  A place where you eat arbors?  What are they?

No, it’s arboretum…..it’s a place where they have lots of trees, flowers and plants for humans to see.  She said there were lots and lots of trees and pretty leaves.

We like leaves.  Why didn’t we get to go with her?

For one thing, we don’t like to ride in the car.

Oh that………..well, should we show our readers some of her pictures?

You go ahead and post them to our blog.  I’m going to go take a nap in a sun puddle.

They All Fall Down……..

I love this time of year!  For some reason the leaves stop hanging onto the branches and they all start falling down.  Mom says it’s a royal pain to rake up all those leaves.  I say it’s so much fun to play in them!!!

Who likes to play in leaves?
Who likes to play in leaves?

I do!!!  I do!!!  I’ve got my paw raised as high as it goes just to show you how excited I am.

Crunchy, munchy leaves.
Crunchy, munchy leaves.

I love the noise the crunchy leaves make.  They’re singing to me.

Heavenly.........
Heavenly………

There’s no better way to unwind and relax than by stretching out on leaves.

My true colors...
My true colors…

I love fall ‘cuz it matches my colors and I can hide.  I bet you didn’t even know there was a kitty there in the leaves.  Hemingway can’t do that.

Watching for leaves.
Watching for leaves.

Wonder how long it will be before Mom tries making all these leaves go into bags?

I hope she waits a long time ‘cuz I really enjoy playing in them.

Not Funny……

Weather Person Beware! I'm going to eat grass and then come to your house and throw-up.

Shakespeare, what is your problem now?

When Mom got home from church yesterday, she let us outside to play.

I know.  I was there.

Copy of P1020899

Well, you went back in the house but the sun was shining so when Mom asked me if I wanted to go inside before she went to the store I told her, “No Way!”

And you found out that was stupid.

Who knew it was going to rain while she was at the grocery store?  The sun was shining!!!

When I saw the drops falling outside, I stood by the door and giggled.  I was nice and dry.

Mr. White Cat on the Deck....wasn't it funny when Shakespeare got wet?
Mr. White Cat on the Deck….wasn’t it funny when Shakespeare got wet?

I still think it’s the fault of the weather person.  Someone must have paid off the weather person in catnip, treats and toys.  I’m going to find out who the guilty person or fur person is!!  My beautiful tail is not meant to get wet.

Mom Made It Home

We waited and waited all day but Mom finally made it home from tripping on the road.

We wanted to make sure that all our human and fur people readers knew that we weren’t abandoned and we got our treats…….even if it was later than usual.

The only thing that really bothered us is the fact that Mom talked about dogs that she met on the trip.  Why didn’t she meet any kitties???

Juno from the shop “Juno and Me” in Stockholm, WI.
Juno out for a stroll in her costume.
Tully goes to “work” in his store in Stockholm, WI everyday. Mom says we should get a job too!

Enough of the dog pictures!  Mom saw some pretty fall things, too.  Let’s show some of them.

Mr. and Mrs. Duck out for a stroll.
At least Mom doesn’t have to rake those leaves!
This is part of the Mississippi River, Mom says people go swimming, fishing and boating along here but we prefer to stay on dry ground.

Mom said this is outside her favorite restaurant in Pepin, WI. She said the food is really good. We noticed she brought a “kitty bag” home with leftovers but she hasn’t given us any. What’s up with that????

Mom didn’t bring us any presents.  She claims that she did look for some but we don’t think she looked very hard.  Still, we’re glad to have her home again so we can get back on our regular routine of treats.

Shakespeare!  Quit thinking about food.  You should be thinking about my birthday ‘cuz it’s only a little over two months away and you need to get busy and get my birthday gifts.

Mom…………..I need some money!
