Monday’s Here Again???

That’s what Mom said this morning.

Yes, but first she thought it was Tuesday so when she finally realized she was wrong, she turned a deeper shade of blue.

Steinbeck, she wasn’t turning colors.

Well, maybe she wanted to.

We had to spend lots of time on our own over the weekend.  I sure do get tired of taking care of my little brother.  However, Mom said it was important that she be gone lots.  You see, the church where she sings in the choir was having their 75th Anniversary.

That’s more years than any of us!

Here’s a picture she took when they were practicing.

75th Anniversary at Wooddale

She said former choir members came to sing and there were around 125 voices singing praise to God.

I can sing the song of my people VERY loudly.

We know.  Mom said she got to see two of her former choir directors and the senior pastor who started just before she started going to that church.  She likes to tell the story of how she judged a couple of his books.  She used to do book reviews and then got on the team that did the first round of judging for the yearly writing contest.  She said that she didn’t like to look at the author’s name when she started reading the book.  However, she could tell right away when it was a book he had written.

Mom said the celebration was really great and she got to see so many people that she hadn’t seen for a long time.  She said she was very thankful that we behaved so she could be away.

Hemingway…………we have to tell the readers what happened today.

We had just finished our thirtieth nap for the day and we looked outside and it was dark.

Street lights were coming on and we thought we had slept the day away.

Here’s what Mom saw:

Storm

She said they were very “bumpy” clouds and it felt like they were banging into the windows.

Mom says her office is on the 8th floor so that’s taller than trees……….and much taller than me!

Here’s a couple more pictures:

Storm 2
This is looking northeast as the storm is heading over to St. Paul. It was very dark where we were.

Mom, we stayed away from the windows to be safe.

Doesn’t look like you did that!  Do we have to have a talk with you?

So, Mom’s excitement over the weekend continued right through today.  I think she’s hoping for a nice calm Tuesday.

Special Moments with a Friend

Hello Mr. Lamb.  Did you have a good day?  What did you do?  Did you watch me running all over the house, chasing my toys and my big brother?  Did you see me carrying bits of paper and my favorite straw?  Did you hear the thundering noise I made as I ran……

MOM!!!!  We were having a private conversation!!  Why did you have to interrupt us with that flashy box?

Maybe if I just close my eyes she’ll go away………..

Mom’s Dog Friends

Last weekend Mom left us and went on a road trip.

It’s something she loves to do but we hate it so we stay home with her brother.

That puts a lot of pressure on me ‘cuz I have to make sure he doesn’t forget to feed us or give us treats.

So how’s that going?

Just fine so far!

Anyway, she said we wouldn’t like to go with her ‘cuz she was going to see her girlfriend and there are two dogs there.

So?  We think we’re dogs anyway.

Yes…….but those dogs don’t think they’re cats! However, I think I probably would have fit right in!

You’re right!  You look just like them.  You should have gone with Mom and then I could have stayed home and had lots of food and treats.

Flowing Water

From the Mom:  The boys let me take over their blog today so I could talk about something serious.

When we turn the water faucet on, the water comes streaming out.  We think it will never end as it splashes over our hands.  Then one day we turn on the faucet and one tiny drip comes out and then nothing.  What happened?  Did we do something different?

I just lost a dear friend.  He died alone at home and wasn’t found right away.  How long was he there by himself?  How did he die?  Did he know he would not be seeing his friends again?  Why did the water that was his life suddenly stop flowing?

I have many questions and very few answers.  What were his final thoughts?  Did he know he was dying alone?  Were the angels there to help him?  I have a strong feeling that they were.

He was a nice man and a wonderful friend.  He loved helping others.  His gruff demeanor could scare people off at times, but it was all an act.  He had a heart that reached out to those who were in need.  He had a great laugh that he didn’t always share with everyone, but those of us who heard it loved it.

Now I wonder if I was good enough at showing him how much value he had.  Did he know he was a special person to many friends?  Did he know he was loved?  He wasn’t one to talk about feelings or show much emotion, but those are usually the ones with hearts as big as all outdoors.

Our time on earth is brief.  We don’t fully understand the impact we may have on others.  That’s why we need to respect those around us.  We need to make our fellow humans feel they are worthy.  We may not be able to like everyone, but I do feel that we can love them through God.

Tell your friends you love them.  Hug your family members.  Don’t forget the fur people in your lives.  That love is what keeps the water flowing.  When it stops and there is no water flowing, we are alone.

This column is dedicated to Dave Webb.  I pray the angels are dancing with  you as you meet up with other family members and friends.  You were special to me and your friendship meant a lot.  You will be missed by those of us left behind.

Don’t Worry..

We’re still around.

We’ve been busy napping, eating, playing, going outside and bugging Mom.

You’ve been bugging Mom.  I’ve been an angel!

Readers……..don’t believe him!  He starts fights with me.

You start fights with me!

Whatever.  We just wanted to let everyone know that we’re doing fine.  Mom has been kind of struggling, however.  Since she started her job where she has to sit lots she’s been having hip and back problems.

We try to make her chase us around the house as much as possible but we’re not doing enough.

So, after checking with her doctor she decided it was time to start her walking routine again.

We asked if we could go along but she told us we’re not allowed out of the back yard.

Mom’s been working hard and then she comes home and takes her walk and then fixes supper.

After all that, she’s worn out and we’re ready for naps.

So, even though we haven’t written much lately, we are still kicking!  Hopefully things will get into a routine that we can all tolerate and Mom will let us write more.  We miss all of you!

We really miss all the purrs, paw pats and funny stories!

I just have one question:

P1040737

Does sleeping like this make me look like a “Wide Load”?

I’ll answer that………..

Happy New Year

Shakespeare, are you doing what Mom said?

Did you call me?  I’m just playing house in this cool box Mom got.

You’re supposed to be working.

Working on what?

Working on your New Year’s Resolutions like I am.

Copy of P1020335

I don’t see anything on that paper.

I know.  I’m having problems with it.  What is a resolution anyway?  I looked it up on the internet and it said something about being determined.

Well that already fits us!   Why did Mom say we had to write resolutions?  She knows we want to play when she’s home and not do work stuff.

Well, I think it has something to do with the fact that this is the end of 2012.

Oh nooooooooooooooo.  What’s happening to 2012?  What are we going to do?

Relax!  The humans have a little over 365 days in what they call a year.  2012 ends tonight at midnight and then it becomes 2013.

So when we wake Mom up for breakfast it will be 2013?

Yes…..as long as we don’t wake her up before midnight.

I wouldn’t think of doing that.  Well…..I might think of it but I know I shouldn’t do it.  Hey…is that a resolution?  I think I’ll take a little nap and see if there are some things I should really be determined about in 2013, so don’t bother me.

Copy of P1020329

I think it’s kind of sad that 2012 is ending.  That means that the next big thing will probably be your birthday and we’ll never hear the end of that.

From the Mom:

Boys, you’ve made 2012 so much fun for me.  You’ve grown into real nice kitties.  I still remember the day I first adopted the two of you.  Hemingway, you were first and I counted on you to be nice to your new little brother when he arrived.  You still have your little quarrels, but you also look out for each other.  I think the best resolutions you two could make would be to stay as sweet and thoughtful as you are.  I know you want to wish all of your fur people and human friends a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.  All of us hope that all of you dear friends have a year that’s filled with love, hope, peace and joy.  May this be the year when humans really reach out to help others.
