Here We Go Again.

We’re sure that you’ve noticed we’ve been missing in action again.

It’s not our fault. We did the best we could, but Mom always seems to do her own thing.

This time her “own thing” got her in trouble!!!

We were just napping on June 30th. Mom was on the phone with the nurse. When she finished she got up to get something ready to mail.

That was her big mistake ‘cuz next thing we knew, we heard a loud bang and she was on the floor. She said her leg felt like it was sticking straight up in the air, but it wasn’t.

We couldn’t pick her up so she had to very carefully and slowly inch her way to the couch so she could get her phone and call 911. We heard her try to make a joke ‘cuz she told the operator she was going to sound like a commercial, but she had fallen and couldn’t get up.

Some really nice men came and took Mom away. We tried to ask them where they were taking her but they didn’t listen.

Mom ended up in the hospital again. We can’t figure out why she keeps going there. She said the food is not that fantastic, but she has pretty views.

Here’s what happened to Mom:

That’s her left leg and it shows that she did a good job of breaking it just above the knee cap. She was super lucky that she didn’t wreck her fake knee in the process. Her surgeon said that she was the talk of the emergency room because her break was so bad.

On July 1st she had surgery on her leg and this is what it looks like now:

She said she’s a Bionic Woman now! Her surgeon is super proud of how he managed to put her leg back together again.

After a few days she was able to leave the hospital and go to a transitional care unit. She told us that she couldn’t put any weight on her left leg for six weeks.

I love being able to use all four of my legs so I think that would be hard.

She’s been home for about a week and has been learning to use the wheelchair and walker in the house. She really can’t do much so we sit on her lap to make her happy.

We did get something really wonderful in the mail and we are so happy.

So now you’re all caught up on what’s been happening here. Mom still has two weeks to go before she sees her surgeon again. Maybe she’ll be able to put some weight on that leg then.

She says to tell all of you that she’s sorry we haven’t been online much. Sometimes her leg starts hurting and she can’t sit at the desk for long.

  1. What a bad break! So happy the surgeon was able to put your mom back together again. When our mom broke her leg in 2011…also a super bad one, it was 22 weeks before she was finally healed and out of a progression of casts and then a boot. We pray that six weeks is spot on! Your mom is definitely having a bad year, so Mom is sending lots of prayers and hugs and we are sending purrs and POTP. You boys take good care of her. XOCK, angel Lily Olivia, angel Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy and Sawyer

    1. Mom here……..thanks so much for the prayers and purrs and POTP. The boys have been very faithful and stick pretty close to me. I didn’t have a cast or boot. I was kind of surprised by that. I can feel the plate in my leg and I hope that gets to the point where I don’t notice it. This has been a bad year for me. πŸ™‚

  2. I’m so sorry this happened to your mom. It must have been scary for you too. Hope she is on her way to feeling better and getting around. Fingers crossed for good news from he surgeon!

  3. What a scary story, boys. So sorry to read what happened to your Mom. Wishing her all the best and a good recovery. I hope you take very good care of her, my furry friends!

  4. Xena: You have to tell your Mom to stop vacationing at the hospital and leaving you two home by yourselves. Do you get fed on time? Do you get treats? Does anyone play with you?
Lucy: What Xena means, is we hope your poor Mom’s leg heals fast and she isn’t in much pain. And you two are great therapy cats for her.

  5. Your poor mom sure can’t catch a break, she is having an awful year. Thank you for the update. I hope she heals quickly and has no other problems. How cool that you got mail. XO

  6. Oh dear goodness – we are so sorry your Mom broke her leg . She is probably lucky that her knee was already bionic. We are sending lots and lots of purrayers and Power of the Paw to your Mom and both you kitties and all her caretakers. That had to be super scary for all of you ! We are so glad she has so many good caretakers and that you boys do too!

  7. Wow! I’m so glad you were able to call for help, but I’ll bet getting to the phone was unpleasant. Do the kitties like riding with you on the wheelchair? I’ve known dogs that were pros at it, but I’m not sure about cats.

BTW, my daughter had a bad break in her ankle with lots of hardware. The surgeon swore it wouldn’t bother her long-term. A year later, the break was healed and the hardware still bothered her. She saw a different surgeon in the practice whose specialty was taking the hardware back out after it had finished doing its job. So apparently, the first surgeon was a little too impressed with his work, and now you know if its a problem, you can take that hardware out later. Hang in there.

    1. Getting to the phone was awful. It hurt so much. I’m just glad I didn’t have to go far. My boys don’t like riding in the wheelchair but they do like sitting on my lap when I’m sitting still. I have all sorts of hardware in my left ankle, too. I ruptured a tendon years ago and aside from the arthritis, have been dealing with it. Good thing these doctors know how to “glue” us together again. πŸ™‚

      1. Yeah, when we’re broken, we are happy to be bolted back together. I have my share of hardware, too.

  8. Ouch, that break looked terrible! I’m glad the surgeon fixed it all up. Tell your human I am sending healing purrs her way. You guys do lots of that in person too – purrs are great for helping bones heal. Google it, if you don’t know!

  9. Gosh boys – that’s just AWFUL! I bet she AND you were scared when she fell but it sounds like the doctors have put her back together again. It’s a lot of work taking care of someone who’s had a BIG operation and is in a wheelchair but you boys can keep her happy anyway – that helps more than you know! We send your Mom lots of prayers and POTP for FAST recovery and no more falls EVER.

    Hugs, Teddy

Purrs, meows, barks, chirps and human comments are greatly appreciated. We love hearing from our readers.
