Winding Down Wednesday

imageedit_5_4409526388

Tell me a story, Hemingway.

I don’t know if I have any stories ready to tell you.  Aren’t you sleepy enough?

Not really.  My mind has been going in lots and lots of circles.

Why?

I’ve been thinking about the weather and I’m getting tired of all the snow and cold.  Did you watch all those flakes falling down Monday night?  I’m glad Mom got home before it got bad.

I know Mom is not real happy with winter.  Even though this has been a really mild winter for this area, all the gray days make us feel sad.  At least now when the sun shines it bounces off all that fresh white snow and that makes us happy.

Yeah………as long as we’re on the inside looking out!

I guess so.  What else is on your mind?

Ya’ know when Mom was talking about those Halloween Goblins in her blood?

You have nothing to worry about ‘cuz she said they are still doing good.

Yes, but she said now she doesn’t have enough iron.  I’ve been looking for nails for her to chew on and I can’t find any.

Tooth Fairy2

Steinbeck…..nobody mailed us nails!  You have to learn to relax a little.  You don’t need to worry so much about all of us.  You and I are taking good care of Mom and she knows it.

But what about what happened at work last week?

Well, we couldn’t do anything to protect her from that but she’s fine now.

**Mom inserts here:  The boys are talking about when I was ready to leave work on Friday and start my weekend.  The elevator had just arrived when all the alarms started going off and we were told to exit the building and not use the elevators.  I knew this wasn’t a drill but I really did want to take the elevator.  I didn’t.  I walked (or hobbled) down eight flights of stairs and out into the cold night.  Turns out a pipe burst in the lobby area of our building and there was water everywhere.  It made quite a mess and they are still working on getting it cleaned up.  As for me, I spent a very painful weekend dealing with my knees and ankle.  Both knees are fake and usually don’t bother me.  My ankle has a triple fusion and needs to be replaced so it bothers me all the time.  It was much worse after all those stairs.  However, I have recovered.

I guess you’re right.  Do you think Mom has left some treats out for us?  Oh………….and what about my story?????

Leave me alone.  I’m lying in my sun puddle.

Instructions May Be Needed

A very strange thing happened over the weekend.  It happened briefly on Saturday but happened again almost all day on Sunday.

We had a bright light in the sky!!!

We haven’t seen that bright light in days and days and days………… Well, you get it.

imageedit_1_5963702489

Still, I knew exactly what to do!  I plopped myself down in the biggest sun puddle I could find and I flashed my sparkly green eyes at Mom to let her know that I was very happy.  Mom said that she liked how my black whiskers showed up in the photo.  However, she didn’t like my messy bib so I did get a brushing later.

Hemingway and Cookie Jar

I was busy telling the Cookie Jar Kitties that they should get in the sun puddles, but they weren’t moving.  Oh, and I also got a brushing even though my bib wasn’t messy.

Mom is actually the one who needed instructions on what to do when the sun shines.

She said she needed to take a class on how to put on sunglasses.

Of course first she had to find them!!!

It was a fun weekend.  What about yours?

Update….

Hey Readers……….It’s me……Hemingway!  I just want to let you know that I’m doing fine.  Mom gives me a little pill in the morning and it makes the space where my toofie was feel better.  She’s been giving both of us wet food and we like that.  I sleep lots during the day so I can be up all night.  hehehehehehehe

I can verify that!  He kept both Mom and me awake last night.  I was just trying to take a warm cozy sleep with Mom and Hemingway just kept dancing around.

From the Mom:  I can also verify that he didn’t sleep!  For one thing, he kept climbing up on my head and stretching himself across my face.  I seriously think he was trying to suffocate me for taking him to the Doctor’s house.  He has been head bumping with great force.  He has also been even more like velcro than before.  He keeps rubbing his face against me and I suppose it’s because the gums hurt.  I can put up with all that, but the trying to suffocate me trick is not appreciated.  One other thing, the doctor had said he had protein in his urine and they wanted to run another test to make sure he didn’t have high blood pressure or the start of kidney disease.  We got the results today and it was all clear.

I never ate any protons!  If I did, maybe Steinbeck put them in my dish.  I know I’ve never asked for any protons!  Do they taste like catnip?

Hemingway, you’ve been hanging around Steinbeck too much.

The Boys Being Good

MOM!!!!!!!!!!  Are you saying something naughty about me?????  Hemingway, how is it that you tried to suffocate her????

Mondays Are Not Easy!!

Dr Hemingway

Let me tell you about MY Monday.  Once you hear my sad tale, you’ll never complain about your Mondays again.

Hemingway, why are you wearing that silly hat?

I’m pretending to be a doctor.  Actually, I think I look pretty cute.  Blue is a good color on me.  Anyway, Monday morning Mom tried to grab me but I went downstairs and hid.  After a pretty long time, I came out of hiding and sat at the bottom of the stairs.  Mom’s brother saw me and he came downstairs and picked me up.  I’m still not sure why I didn’t run away from him.  He gave me to Mom and next thing I knew I was in her car.  I sang the song of my people all the way over to the doctor’s house.  When we got inside, I sat down on one of the chairs and refused to talk to Mom.  She talked to one of the assistants and I heard things about teeth and being knocked out and all sorts of scary stuff.  Would you believe Mom left me there????  I let the assistant pick me up and carry me back to another room.  I was afraid I would never see Mom again.

I was worried while you were gone.  I don’t like being home all alone.

Mom said that while I was “sleeping” they had to extract one of my toofies.  It was sick and the doctor lady said it would be really painful if they didn’t take care of it.  Believe me, in the process of “taking care of it”  it was painful enough so I’m glad they took it out.  My smile is still cute so there’s no problems.  I have to retain my handsomeness!!!

When it was dark out, Mom came to get me.  She had to pay out lots of money to get me out of there but she said I was worth it.  When I first saw her, I was so excited.  I got in her arms and never wanted to leave.  So, we headed outside.  Now here’s where things get a little confusing.  Mom put me in the car and I cleverly managed to sneak out and went under the car and hid.  It was dark and Mom couldn’t see me.  It was also super cold and Mom didn’t have her gloves on.  She went in and got one of the “desk ladies” to come out and help.  She brought a big net (They had to use that on me once before so I was familiar with it.).  She tried looking under the car and didn’t see me so Mom got really worried……..and really cold.  They brought out a flashlight and managed to convince me to come out.  Mom put me in the car again and…….you guessed it…..I tried to get out again.  You see, it was logical for me to want to get out ‘cuz I was afraid that Mom was going to take me to another doctor’s house or something.  I just didn’t understand ‘cuz I was on kitty drugs for the pain.  Anyway, I finally settled on the floor…….right by the brake and gas pedal.  Mom kept trying to get me to move but I wouldn’t budge.  She said she was very glad that she only had a short distance to go and that she was able to get both of us home safely.  And that’s why I don’t like Mondays anymore.

From the Mom:  When I finally got home last night, I was exhausted.  I was going to help the boys with their blog but I just couldn’t do it.  I had to warm up (it really was biting cold), eat supper and relax.  Hemingway is doing fine.  He takes his pain meds in the morning like a trooper.  He won’t leave me alone and seems to love cuddling even more.  By the way, I absolutely love the picture they took of him.  It just made me smile.  I’m thinking I may have to print that one and frame it.  Good old Hemingway spent Veterans’ Day at the vet’s.

What Happened?

imageedit_2_9843976138

Steinbeck, have you looked outside?

I don’t want to.  I made the mistake of looking out a little while ago and it was white.  I guess the angels were washing their wings and they spilled detergent all over the place.

You can believe that little tale you made up if you want to, but I know I’m not putting my paws in that white stuff.  I’ve learned that the white is cold!  And I also have the feeling it’s going to be around for a long time now and it’s going to bring all its friends and relatives and it’s going to pile up on everything, and then it’s going to take Mom longer to get home from work and then we won’t get our supper until late and then she’s going to be crabby about driving on ice and then she won’t settle down and watch a movie with us and then…………..

Take a breath, Hemingway.  I remember the cold and I don’t like it.  Let’s just turn our backs on it and stare at that flower.

Mom Says………..

………that today is National Cat Day.

We don’t get it.  Why do humans think they have to make a special day for cats?

Don’t they realize that EVERY day is CAT DAY???

Well, to celebrate us today, Mom let us go outside and play when she got home from work.

It was a little chilly but we had our fur coats on.

imageedit_5_7490054099

Steinbeck, those leaves sure look like your fur!

imageedit_7_6502737757

Be quiet.  I think there’s a black kitty over here in the leaves.  I’m going to pretend I’m ignoring him and see if he turns around.

imageedit_1_3413449525

I can see for miles and miles and miles from this spot.  I can see more leaves falling.  Mom’s not going to be happy.  Those trees are making a mess in the yard again.

imageedit_9_6084390937

Look Hemingway……..the leaves are making a mess on the sidewalk and the driveway, too.  Mom doesn’t let us make big messes like that.  How come the trees get away with it?

imageedit_3_3782333025

I don’t know.  I thought Mr. Outdoor Cat was supposed to be watching for stuff like that.

imageedit_11_3274749464

Hemingway………did you hear what Mr. Outdoor Cat said?  He said it’s going to get colder, all the catnip will die and then he mumbled something about the “s” word.  Can we convince Mom to move to Florida???

Why not?  After all it’s National Cat Day!!!

I Thought I Was So Smart…

Monday was supposed to be a big surprise for us. Of course Mom knew what was happening but she wasn’t going to tell us.

Mom had the day off from work but she got up just as early so I figured she had something in store. Next thing I knew she had picked me up and whisked me out into the rain. I wasn’t happy about that. Know where she took me???? She took me to the Doctor Man’s house!!!! Mom said I behaved like a real gentleman and they all loved me. The Doctor Man said that I was doing good with my weight. I now weigh 18 pounds so I’ve lost some of my extra poundage. All in all it was a great visit. However, I had to tell Steinbeck about it.

Mom and I got home and she said she was going to have to go see her doctor and that she would be back in a little while.

Mom said her Doctor Lady wanted to check and see if she had enough Halloween Goblins in her blood so she could go off one of her meds.

Steinbeck, that’s hemoglobin and Mom’s numbers were great. While Mom was gone Steinbeck and I had a little chat. I told him he was in for a surprise but it wasn’t a good one. Yep, I blabbed about going to the Doctor’s house.

When I found out that, I knew I had to do something. I hid. I heard Mom calling the Doctor’s house and telling them she couldn’t find me so she had to change the appointment. She did that about four times and the last time she called to say she couldn’t find me, they told her that their power was out so there was no need for me to go to the Doctor’s House!!!!

Little did he know…….

Mom came home from work tonight and fed us and talked to us. I thought she was going to settle down and watch a movie so I jumped up in my bed and settled down to watch it with her. Next thing I knew she had picked me up and she and her brother put me in my traveling box. There was no escaping this time. I sang the song of my people loud and clear going out the door, riding to the doctor’s house, and when we entered the doctor’s house. Inside the one set of doors it really echos nice so I did a great operatic solo.

Steinbeck and the Vet 5

Why did you have to put me in the traveling box tonight?

Steinbeck and the Vet 3

Doctor Lady, I know I’m handsome but I’m not falling for you patting my head.

Steinbeck and the Vet 2

Wait a minute, Doctor Lady…..my lips don’t turn that way!

Steinbeck and the Vet 4

I don’t care what you say.  I am NOT getting on that scale again.  You told me I was a little chunky.  I’m a handsome dude and not a chunky dude.

Steinbeck and the Vet 7

Are there treats in that Good Kitty jar?

Steinbeck and the Vet 1

See Doctor Lady, that’s all muscle you’re feeling.  Hemingway is the chubby one.

Steinbeck and the Vet 6

I’m going to close my eyes and when I wake up this will have all been a bad dream.

The Mom Speaks:  All of us saw our doctors this week and all of us were pronounced healthy.  Steinbeck gets so stressed when it’s time to go to the vet.  He always manages to figure out what I’m up to.  Hemingway may complain a little, but once he’s there he just sits on the chair next to me and watches all the people and fur people.  The staff at the “Doctor’s House” love these two and they know all about their blog.  By the way, Steinbeck quickly recovered and is his normal self again…..and still thinks he’s smarter than me.

Sunday Selfies

Oh boy……we haven’t joined our friends at the Blue Kitty House for a long time.

Steinbeck, it’s the Kitties Blue.

Are they all blue?

Just explain your selfie to the readers.

OK.  This was taken to prove to Mom that my ears were clean.  MOL!!!  Of course my messy bib shows, too.  Mom is always combing and brushing my bib but somehow I manage to mess it up rather quickly.  Anyway we wanted to join our friends today so don’t forget to stop and say hi to them, too.

Caturday Art

Mom was really surprised today.  She looked and there I was all curled up in Steinbeck’s bed.  She was so happy that both of her boys liked the bed.  She’s taught us to share so we both don’t try and sleep in it at the same time……….YET!!!

Mom decided I could be the star for this week’s Caturday Art so here we go:
